Frequently Asked Questions
Direct answers to the most common questions from prospective families.
Is your advice truly independent?
Yes. Zhen Education operates on a zero-commission model. We receive no referral fees, commissions, or financial incentives from any school, university, tutor, or educational programme. All recommendations are made solely in the client's interest. This is a founding principle of the practice and is not negotiable.
Who handles the actual advisory work: Dr Lin personally, or junior staff?
Every engagement is personally directed by Dr Lin. He sets the strategy, defines the approach, and maintains direct oversight throughout the relationship. For certain engagements, qualified senior associates may support execution under his direct supervision, but material strategic decisions are never delegated. At the Dynastic Advisory tier, Dr Lin personally delivers all core strategic work.
How can I verify Dr Lin's credentials and track record?
Dr Lin's full professional biography, including academic qualifications, European Patent Attorney registration details, and complete career history, is publicly available at henrylin.co.uk. The Zhen Education site provides a condensed professional overview focused on education advisory. For confidential discussion of relevant engagement experience, references can be shared under mutual NDA with qualified prospects.
What geographic areas do you serve?
Our primary focus is the Greater Bay Area (Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and surrounding regions), where we maintain a physical presence and local relationships with private banks and family offices. Dr Lin plans permanent residency in Guangzhou to enable regular in-person engagement with GBA-based families. Well-matched founder families from other Chinese cities, including Shanghai, Beijing, Hangzhou, and beyond, are also served on a remote-plus-periodic-travel model. There is no difference in service quality or scope between GBA-based and other engagements.
Will Dr Lin relocate to Guangzhou?
Yes. Dr Lin plans to establish permanent residency in Guangzhou. This enables regular in-person engagement with Greater Bay Area families while maintaining his UK professional ties and institutional knowledge. The practice is structured to deliver locally grounded advisory backed by decades of UK-system expertise.
Do you offer legal or patent advisory as part of education retainers?
No. Education advisory retainers cover education-strategy only. While Dr Lin is a qualified European Patent Attorney, legal advice, patent filing, formal intellectual property opinions, and all regulated professional services are explicitly out of scope for education engagements. Any legal or IP work requires a separate engagement letter under his regulated professional capacity and is governed by distinct professional conduct rules. This boundary protects both the client and the practice.
Can I see a sample proposal or scope of work before committing?
Proposals are custom-written for each family after the initial discovery conversation and mutual fit evaluation. They are not published as templates because every family's situation is different. The discovery conversation itself involves no cost or obligation and is the natural first step to understand whether an engagement might be appropriate. Following that conversation, if there is mutual interest, you will receive a bespoke written proposal for your consideration.
How long does a typical engagement last?
Our retainer relationships typically span multiple years, reflecting the multi-stage nature of UK education. Admissions Architecture engagements commonly run 2–5 years. Dynastic Advisory engagements often extend across a decade or more, covering multiple children and education stages from prep school through university graduation. One-off projects (the Strategic Blueprint and ad-hoc consultations) have defined, shorter timelines measured in weeks.
Are you a registered or accredited education agency?
Zhen Education is a boutique advisory practice, not an education agency. Our value proposition is the principal's personal expertise and cross-disciplinary judgment, not institutional affiliation. Dr Lin's professional standing is documented through his academic qualifications (Cambridge PhD), regulated professional registration (European Patent Attorney), and independent professional biography at henrylin.co.uk rather than through education-agency accreditation schemes.
